UALR Rewind: Trojans fall flat in road game at Ole Miss

BURN THE HORSE
Well, that didn’t go particularly well.

Realistically looking at Friday’s game, it was difficult to find a scenario in which UALR beat Ole Miss. However, most wouldn’t have pegged UALR for a 40-point beat down at Tad Smith Coliseum in Oxford, Miss.

UALR lost 92-52 to drop to 1-2 on the season.

The only thing with a worse performance than UALR on Friday was the Ole Miss live stats. Actually, we still don't even have a box. So, you'll have to settle for game photos by clicking HERE. As a result, there won't be a plus/minus update until tomorrow afternoon.

There also wasn't much of a choice for UALR player of the game. But you can still vote right now at Burn The Horse.

KEYS REVISITED

MARSHALL PLAN: UALR needed to find a way to slow down Ole Miss sharpshooter Marshall Henderson. The Trojans did slow him early, but he poured it on after that. Henderson made 5 of 10 three-pointers and finished with 17 points. Grade: C.
WILL OR WON’T: UALR was unable to get Will Neighbour involved on the offensive end. He finished with 4 points, making just one field goal. Grade: F.
TURNING POINT: Again, UALR wasn’t bad early. The Trojans only had five turnovers at halftime. But 15-second half turnovers turned a blowout into a disaster. Grade: F.

THE GOOD

Freshman guard John Gillon came into the game averaging 14.5 points and he nearly matched that with 14 points on Friday.

THE BAD

UALR got outrebounded 47-34.

THE UGLY

Sophomore starters Taggart Lockhart and Ben Dillard, who came in averaging a combined 19 points, finished with a combined zero on Friday.

VEGAS, BABY

This looked like easy money. Ole Miss started out favored by 15.5 points. The line jumped to 18 points by tipoff. Even at that number it wasn’t even close. UALR is now 0-2 as an underdog this season.

UP NEXT

It really won’t get any easier as the Trojans host Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Monday at the Jack Stephens Center. Milwaukee is 1-1 on the season with an overtime loss at South Carolina. But that was a game they had in hand before collapsing late. Milwaukee plays tomorrow at home against Davidson before flying to Little Rock on Sunday.
