Kilpatrick vs. Isler intriguing matchup as Cincy hosts UALR

BURN THE HORSE
A bona-fide college basketball star on one side. An emerging defensive stopper on the other. There’s no doubt where the best matchup of Thursday’s is.

Sean Kilpatrick

Cincinnati’s Sean Kilpatrick vs. UALR’s Leroy Isler as No. 11 Cincinnati (7-0) hosts UALR (7-3) at 6 p.m. tonight at Fifth Third Arena in Cincinnati.

Kilpatrick is a 6-4 junior guard out of Yonkers, N.Y. He’s a do it all
type player, averaging 19.9 points and 6.4 rebounds for the Bearcats.

Isler is a 6-5 junior guard out of Brooklyn, N.Y. After a slow start to
the season, Isler has emerged as UALR’s defensive stopper. He’s already got the names of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s Jordan Aaron, SMU’s Jalen Jones and St. Gregory’s Fayzon Richey to his credit.

But Kilpatrick provides the biggest challenge to date.

Kilpatrick is a strong, physical guard (He can bench 185 pounds 22 times, 11 more reps than the average player at the NBA combine). He’s had 53 double
figure scoring games in his career and 23 games where he’s made three or more
three-pointers.

Already this season he had 20 points against Mississippi Valley State,
29 vs. North Carolina A&T and 32 vs. Iowa State. He shoots 49 percent from
the field and 41 percent from the three-point line, where he takes right at 50
percent of his attempts.

It’s a tough matchup but one UALR has to keep under control if it hopes
to have a chance.
