John Gillon
When UALR’s John Gillon scored 22 points in the season opener on Friday he became the first Trojan freshman to score that many points in a game since the 2003-2004 season.
Gillon, a true freshman from Houston Strake Jesuit, came off the bench to be UALR’s leading scorer in a victory over Tennessee-Martin at the Jack Stephens Center.
It was the most points in a game by a freshman since Jan. 26, 2004, when Zack Wright scored 23 points in a 102-51 victory over Williams Baptist. That had been the most points by a UALR freshman since Feb. 24, 2001 when Nick Zachary scored 31 points in a 94-85 victory over Arkansas State.
