UALR Coach Steve Shields is suspended for tonight's game against Louisiana-Monroe. He is not permitted to be within one mile of the Jack Stephens Center from one hour before the start of the game until one hour after the game ends.
Shields has tried to make today as much like a normal game day as possible. He went to shoot-around this afternoon and the team's pregame meal. He will address the team at 5:45 p.m. and will depart the Stephens Center by 6 p.m.
Shields isn't permitted to talk about why he was suspended. But we did ask him what he's going to do tonight?
Don't worry. He's not going the way of Cecil Newton and sneaking into the game. He said he's going to go to dinner with UALR women's Coach Joe Foley and then head back to his house to listen to the game on the radio.
Assistant Coach Joe Kleine will coach the team in the absence of Shields, who could pick up a milestone victory tonight. Shields needs just one victory to move into sole possession of second place on UALR's all-time victory list. He has 122.
