BURN THE HORSE
UALR at ULL 7 p.m. tonight Lafayette, La. |
Louisiana-Lafayette defeated UALR 68-49 in the first meeting between the teams this season. They'll meet again tonight at 7 p.m. at the Cajundome with first place in the West Division on the line.
Since Steve Shields took over as UALR's head coach in the 2003-2004 season, his teams have fared well in revenge games. Ten previous times the Trojans lost to an opponent by 10 or more points and were able to face that opponent again later in the season. UALR has won nine of those 10 revenge games.
They include beating Middle Tennessee 69-62 the same week the Trojans lost to the Blue Raiders 85-50 in 2005. They also include two games from last season. UALR lost 86-60 to Oral Roberts but beat the Golden Eagles 52-49 in the rematch. And UALR lost 92-79 to South Alabama before beating the Jaguars 82-68 during the rematch.
The only loss of this kind came in the 2008-2009 season. UALR lost the first game to Western Kentucky 79-47. The Trojans led the rematch before the Steven Moore incident. UALR ended up losing that game 78-69.
It should also be noted that the majority of the first-game blowouts happened on the road with the rematch taking place at home. That won't be the case tonight.
