UALR Rewind: UALR throws away keys, finds way to win anyway

BURN THE HORSE

Pondering the fact that Burn The Horse likely deserves an F for these Keys to Victory. Good thing the Trojans did some other things to pull out Saturday’s 63-62 victory at Arkansas State

And if the ASU game story will mention that Trey Finn did, in fact, play in this game (since that was apparently the only reason UALR won last year in the Sun Belt Tournament).

BTH Keys:
Solid start: UALR wasn’t good from the start on Saturday, trailing most of the first half and 36-29 at halftime. Add to that D’Andre Williams’ three first-half fouls. Grade: D

Defense wins: UALR held Arkansas State to 35.8 percent shooting, including 23.1 percent in the second half. Good thing because ASU made 8 of 19 three-pointers and 16 of 24 free throws. Grade: B.

Rebound it: UALR was outrebounded 41-32 overall and 17-11 in offensive rebounds. But UALR actually held an 11-10 advantage in second-chance points. Grade: D

Inside out: Courtney Jackson never got going but Michael Javes made a huge contribution with 9 points and 5 blocked shots. Grade: B

Chuck Guy
Vegas, baby!
ASU was favored by three points, making those who bet on UALR winners in Las Vegas again. That makes 10 consecutive Vegas winners for UALR.

Stat of the game
Arkansas State made just 2 of 16 shots inside the arc in the second half.

Always negative
50 percent: UALR made 7 of 14 free throws for 50 percent.

Keep it positive
50 percent: UALR made 8 of 16 three-pointers for 50 percent.

Player of the game
Chuck Guy finished with 18 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal.
