UALR Rewind: Some good, some bad from Saturday's loss to WKU

BURN THE HORSE

Pondering just how big a victory this would have been for the Trojans as we compile today‘s UALR Rewind. In the West Division, 6-1 is light years ahead of 5-2.

A look back at today’s keys:
SURVIVE: UALR did more than survive the first 10 minutes. The Trojans held the lead and kept the crowd at E.A. Diddle Arena from really getting into the game. Grade: A.

MAKE SOME SHOTS:  UALR goes 22 of 51 from the field for 43 percent. But Chuck Guy was just 1 of 8 and Will Neighbour just 2 of 5. Everyone else was OK, but those two hurt. Grade: C.

POINT GUARD: D’Andre Williams had 16 points, but he was a virtual no-show in the first half. He played 36 minutes but it seemed like he wasn’t a contributor for large portions of the game. However, that eight-point run that gave UALR a late five-point lead was amazing. Grade: B.

REBOUND: UALR outrebounded Western Kentucky 33-31, a nice change from recent efforts. Grade: B.

Vegas, baby
UALR was a one-point favorite (it was a pick’em in some spots), making the Trojans a Vegas loser for the second consecutive time. UALR is now 1-2 this season as a favorite.

Stat of the game
16-8: Western Kentucky went 13 of 16 at the free throw line while UALR went just 6 of 8.

Always negative
UALR had just nine assists to go with 17 turnovers.

Keep it positive
Courtney Jackson made 2 of 2 free throws as part of his 14 points. Jackson has evolved into one of UALR’s best free throw shooters.

Player of the game
UALR freshman Michael Javes continues to evolve. He had 6 points, 14 rebounds, 2 blocks and 2 steals.

Up next
UALR returns home to face South Alabama on Thursday.
