BTH Scout: ULM offense runs through forward James

Jayon James

Check out these ridiculous numbers from Louisiana-Monroe’s Jayon James, who by the way is the Warhawks’ only starter taller than 6-4. He is an absolute assist and turnover machine – at the same time.

UALR travels to Louisiana-Monroe on Thursday.

In the past five games, James, a 6-6, 240-pound junior has had 35 assists and 25 turnovers. Math majors will know that’s 7.0 assists and 5.0 turnovers per game. I’m not sure which is more outrageous.

But when he’s good, he’s really good. Last Saturday against Florida International, James had 11 points, 9 rebounds, 15 assists, 1 block and 1 steal. He also had 5 turnovers and played all 40 minutes. Those 15 assists are the most by a Sun Belt player this season.

For better or worse, it’s safe to say ULM’s offense runs through James.

He’s taken 182 field goals, tops on the team. He also leads with 6.9 rebounds per game. He has 95 assists, 54 more than his next closest teammate. And he has 89 turnovers, 36 more than any other teammate.

UALR should be aware of him. He had 15 points, 4 assists and 8 turnovers in the first meeting between the teams. He made 5 of 16 field goal attempts that night.
