UALR looks to snap WKU losing streak when it returns home on Thursday

There was a time when UALR was dominating Western Kentucky. That time has passed.

When UALR (8-7, 2-2 Sun Belt Conference) hosts Western Kentucky at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, the Trojans will be trying to snap an eight-game losing streak to the Hilltoppers.

UALR’s last win over Western Kentucky came on Jan. 17, 2007, when the Trojans held on a for a 71-69 victory at the Jack Stephens Center. Just to demonstrate how long ago that was, UALR’s Rashad Jones Jennings had 10 points, 10 rebounds and 6 blocked shots in that game.

At the time, it gave UALR Coach Steve Shields a 4-4 record against Western Kentucky. That included sweeping the Hilltoppers in the 2004-2005 season and narrow losses in both games in the 2005-2006 season. However, the past three games have been close. The 2011 meeting at the Stephens Center saw WKU’s Jamal Crook end up with a loose ball and hitting a layup at the buzzer to beat UALR. UALR also held sizeable leads in both meetings last year before falling apart down the stretch and losing.
