BURN THE HORSE
National signing day can be an exciting time for college
basketball programs. It will be again this year for UALR. But it won’t be
because of who the Trojans sign to a National Letter of Intent. Instead, it’s
much more about who they previously signed.
You see, for the first time since who knows, maybe ever, UALR
isn’t expected to sign anyone in the fall signing period. Not just on signing
day, which will be Nov. 14, but the entire fall period.
That’s because UALR has no scholarship seniors on the team.
It’s also because of the potential UALR Coach Steve Shields sees in the players
who are already here.
UALR has seven scholarship freshmen, four sophomores and two juniors. UALR also has one walkon in each class (a freshman, sophomore, junior and senior). The cupboard's full.
So for the first time, again probably ever, not signing
anyone is probably a good thing.
