UALR spreads the wealth in dominating victory over Jacksonville

BURN THE HORSE
Four players scored in double figures as UALR rolled to a relatively easy 78-56 victory over Jacksonville on Wednesday at the Jack Stephens Center in Little Rock.

56                        78

Freshman John Gillon had 16 points, junior Will Neighbour 15, sophomore Taggart Lockhart 14 and freshman James White 13 to lead the Trojans (3-2). White added 8 rebounds, while Neighbour had 7. And junior Leroy Isler went John Fowler again, shutting down Jacksonville’s leading scorer Keith McDougald, who finished with 2 points and 3 turnovers on 1 of 8 shooting.
Jacksonville (2-3) had been impressive in winning at Missouri State on Monday night. But UALR seized control of the game midway through the first half. The game only got as tight as six points in the second half, but UALR went on a run to put it out of reach.
Taggart Lockhart
The game featured the best performances to date for Lockhart, White and freshman Josh Hagins, who had 8 points. Lockhart hit his first four shots from the field, scoring nine first-half points to help the Trojans establish a lead.
UALR shot 45 percent while holding Jacksonville to 35 percent. UALR also shot 39 percent from three-point range (7 of 18) after Jacksonville had held its previous opponents to the low 20s. Hagins (2 for 2), Neighbour (2 for 4), and Gillon (2-6) each hit two. Lockhart also hit another.
UALR also held a 41-29 advantage in rebounds, including 17-11 in offensive rebounds.
But it wasn’t all positive. UALR had 18 turnovers and again struggled to convert the easy shot attempts they were getting in the flow of the offense. That included a 2 of 8 from the field by sophomore Michael Javes.
But overall it was a positive experience as the Trojans fly to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, in the morning. Jacksonville pressed and played both man-to-man and zone defenses throughout the game, giving the Trojans a lot of looks.
