Gillon's 22 points most by UALR freshman in debut

BURN THE HORSE
John Gillon's 22 points might have been the most ever by a freshman making their UALR debut. We say might because records get sketchy pre-Division I in 1979.

What we're sure of is that no freshman since then has scored that many points in their debut. The closest came from James Scott in 1987 when he had 19 points in a 102-88 loss to Purdue.

Scott started 30 of 31 games as a freshman, averaging 16 points that year. Those points were the first of his all-time UALR leading 1,731 points.

UALR freshman James White nearly matched that total with 18 points last Friday. Although you might have had to add an asterisk to White's total. He actually debuted last season before an injury forced him to redshirt.
