BURN THE HORSE
I'll admit it. Straight up. I didn't see UALR winning Monday's game against Wisconsin-Milwaukee. It just seemed like too much to overcome. Will Neighbour with 2 of his game high 17. |
These are the adventures of playing with a young basketball team with freshmen point guards. There are going to be night's like last week's losses to Louisiana Tech and Ole Miss where everything goes wrong. And there's going to be nights like Monday, when everything comes together.
The challenge is to get the Mondays to occur a little more frequently. And there's no reason to think they won't. UALR doesn't have an experienced squad, but it does have as talented a team as it has had in a long time.
Monday was a glimpse of that future. We can just hope we'll see more of it sooner than later.
STAT OF THE GAME
Wisconsin-Milwaukee lives and dies by the three-pointer.
UALR held the Panthers to just 5 of 22 from behind the arc.
REVISITING KEYS
Perhaps one of the keys should have been to have Leroy Isler
lock up Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s Jordan Aaron. That would have earned them an
absolute A. But here’s a look at the BTH Keys:
BOARD IT: This seemed like a must. But UALR was outrebounded
29-27. Actually, the gap was much larger most of the night. Grade: C.
DEFEND THE THREE: Wisconsin-Milwaukee shot 5 of 22 from
three-point range for 23 percent. Grade: A+.
BE THE BALL: We wanted to see UALR play with confidence. You
can’t really quantify this key with a statistic. You either have it or you don’t.
And from the start of Monday’s game, UALR had it. Grade: A.
THE GOOD
Junior Will Neighbour finished with 17 points and 6
rebounds.
THE BAD
Wisconsin-Milwaukee had 11 offensive rebounds.
THE UGLY
A half-dozen missed point-blank shots would have made UALR’s
lead a little more comfortable throughout.
VEGAS, BABY
Wisconsin-Milwaukee went in as a four-point favorite. UALR
is now 1-2 as an underdog this season.
UP NEXT
UALR hosts Jacksonville at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the
