Brace allows UALR's Leeper to get back on the court

BURN THE HORSE
It appears sophomore forward Gus Leeper will have a go of it this season despite a stress fracture limiting some of his practice availability.

There’s reason to believe Leeper can play through it. He’s now wearing the same style brace that former UALR women’s basketball player Asriel Rolfe had to wear during her junior season. Playing with the brace, Leeper was able to participate in last Saturday’s closed scrimmage against Harding. He’s expected to be available on Friday as UALR opens the season with a 7 p.m. tipoff against Tennessee-Martin.

Rolfe played her entire junior season with two stress fractures.

After struggling through most of his freshman season, Leeper came on in the final three weeks of the season as the Trojans advanced to the NCAA Tournament. Much was expected of him before a knee injury forced him to take a medical redshirt as a sophomore.

He’s back now for his sophomore season. The knee is healthy but stress fractures had limited his practice time throughout the fall. UALR hopes the brace, much like it did for Rolfe, will keep Leeper available throughout the year.
