UALR can't afford a slip up as it hosts Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday

BURN THE HORSE
Louisiana-Monroe
at UALR
7 p.m. Saturday
Jack Stephens Center
By Saturday night, UALR has the potential to be two games ahead in the loss column in the West Division standings. They could also be a ½ game behind in the West Division standings.

UALR has no business overlooking Louisiana-Monroe as the Warhawks come to visit at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Jack Stephens Center. UALR currently has a ½ game lead on Louisiana-Lafayette with North Texas and Denver 1.5 games out.

UALR can't afford a slip up Saturday night. Elsewhere, there are some big games on Saturday.

Middle Tennessee at Denver, 3 p.m. (ESPN2)
Both teams managed to make it to Denver (on the same flight from Dallas, bet that was interesting) despite a blizzard in the Mile High City. Clearly, a Middle Tennessee victory would make it extremely tough for Denver to have a shot at the West Division championship. Just like the North Texas-Middle Tennessee game on Thursday, root for Middle Tennessee and hope for the best later on.

Florida International at Florida Atlantic, 6 p.m.
It’s an East Division game but UALR benefits with a Florida Atlantic loss. Since the top five receive byes in the Sun Belt Tournament, keeping FAU below that 5 line might ensure that two other West Division teams (currently North Texas and Denver) have to go to the opposite side of the bracket. Root for FIU.

South Alabama at Western Kentucky, 7 p.m.
No rooting interest.

Louisiana-Lafayette at Troy, 7:30 p.m.
Troy can be a tough place to play even when Troy is down. Louisiana-Lafayette is making that long bus trip from Lafayette, La., to Troy, Ala., today. UALR did it a few years ago and it’s not much fun. Louisiana-Lafayette is UALR’s closest competitor right now so root for Troy.
