UALR Rewind: It wasn't pretty, but UALR rallies to beat FAU

BURN THE HORSE

An official counts UALR
players coming out of a
timeout.
Random thoughts while compiling tonight’s BTH Rewind:
  • How the couple sitting behind me felt when they woke up Sunday morning to find out UALR pulled off a victory. They left when it was 38-32 FAU.
  • How many times did my five-year-old went to the bathroom during the game? I think it was six. Could have been seven.
  • How many times I saw game officials counting the players on the court.
  • How Will Neighbour’s rehab is going.
Here’s the BTH Keys:

1. Solid start: UALR took the lead early and held the lead at halftime, but the Trojans squandered chance after chance with questionable execution. That let FAU hang around. Grade: B.

2. Slow down: I know. 40-38 wasn’t exactly what I had in mind. Really, this was an area the Trojans struggled at. They ran into turnovers when nothing was there all night long. Grade: C.

3. Board it: UALR got outrebounded 35-30 by a team that’s getting outrebounded for the season. Grade: F.

4. D up: UALR held FAU to 33 percent shooting, including 14 percent from three-point range. Even better, FAU went to the free throw line only eight times all night. Grade: A+.

Vegas, baby
FAU was a two-point favorite going in. That means UALR beat the Las Vegas spread for the eighth-consecutive game. Anybody take the under?

Stat of the game
0 points by Florida Atlantic point guard Raymond Taylor, who also had six turnovers. Taylor was a preseason first team all-Sun Belt selection.

Always negative
Where should we start? How about 0 for 9 from three-point range in the second half?

Keep it positive
D’Andre Williams was 4 for 4 on field-goal attempts inside the arc. That included the game-winner.

Up next
UALR travels to Louisiana-Monroe on Thursday. The Warhawks picked up their first Sun Belt win at Florida International on Saturday.
