UALR looking to go 4-0 in Sun Belt play for the first time since 2002

BURN THE HORSE
When UALR travels to Louisiana-Monroe on Thursday, the Trojans will  attempt to go 4-0 in Sun Belt play for the first time since the 2001-2002 season.

UALR has opened this season with victories at North Texas, at Denver and at home vs. Florida Atlantic.

The last time the Trojans went 4-0 they won 71-57 at Florida International, 84-74 vs. North Texas, 79-63 vs. Denver and 78-58 at Arkansas State. That set up a Sun Belt showdown with New Orleans.

Of course, this is the famous Monte Towe-Porter Moser incident (can't believe I can't find video of this) during the postgame handshake. It came after UNO scored a late basket to beat UALR, which went on to finish 8-6 in Sun Belt play that season.

In that game, New Orleans' Kentrell Martin made a  layup with 0.9 seconds left to give UNO a 73-72 victory. Apparently there had been some jawing going on among the coaching staffs. And at the postgame handshake, Towe slapped Moser's hand and said, "Take That, Mother ******." The coaches had to be separated. Moser pointed at Towe. Towe pointed to the scoreboard.

It got both schools some unwanted time on ESPN's SportsCenter. And it helped fuel a rivalry between the schools despite the coaches making up over a beer at that year's Sun Belt Tournament.

Moser is now the head coach at Loyola-Chicago. Towe is an assistant coach at Middle Tennessee.

Hoping for a more civil outcome in Monroe on Thursday.
