UALR Gameday: Trojans face tough task at No. 2 Kentucky

BURN THE HORSE

UALR vs. Kentucky
6 p.m. Central
Louisville, Ky.
Daily was asleep at the wheel this morning. No mention of Will Neighbour’s injury and the likeliness that he won’t play tonight. And they’ve managed to turn UALR Coach Steve Shields’ overall coaching record into a losing one.

No worries though. The Lexington Herald-Leader doesn’t charge and did a great job of previewing tonight: Link

And here’s some notes both on Kentucky and on UALR, far more than we got locally: Link

It seems a bit silly to list keys to victory. Kentucky is the No. 2 team in the nation and will boast a talent advantage at every position all night long. However, UALR can and should expect to get something out of this game:

1. Someone else: Will Neighbour will have his shoulder examined this morning. I guess it’s possible he could be medically cleared, fly to Louisville, and play tonight. But that’s not likely. The more likely scenario would be to have Neighbour wait to return until the far more important Sun Belt Conference games resume. If Neighbour doesn’t play, there’s a major opportunity for the Trojans. UALR has struggled a bit in recent weeks when Neighbour has gone out of the game. This is a major opportunity for Marlon Louzeiro, who has been a plus/minus ace recently, to seize some minutes. It’s also an opportunity for freshman Michael Javes, who has seen his minutes shrink, to get back into the regular rotation.

2. Beat it. The spread is 28 points tonight. UALR has beaten the spread six consecutive times and will gain confidence if they can keep it close.

Vegas says
As we just said, Las Vegas has Kentucky favored by 28 points tonight. UALR hasn’t been Vegas favored in a game the entire season, but the Trojans have beaten the Vegas spread in eight of 11 outings. That includes the past six games Also of note is that the over/under sits at 136. UALR has hit the over in four straight and five of the past six.
