North Texas guards ineligible for rest of season

BURN THE HORSE

How long did North Texas allow Chris Jones and Jordan Williams to play after finding out they would be ineligible? They knew the day Tony Mitchell was declared eligible.

This line came from today’s story in the Denton Record-Chronicle:
UNT held out hope that both players could work through their situations before the beginning of the second term and meet NCAA requirements for progress toward their degree after one semester. Both exhausted their avenues to improve their academic standing by Tuesday afternoon.
UALR faced a similar situation last year when Eric Kibi was declared ineligible. While Kibi worked to restore his eligibility, he sat out and missed seven games.

What does it mean for North Texas? We’ll probably know a little more after tonight. The Mean Green are playing one of their two exhibition games against a non-Division I opponent. And we’ll know a lot more on Saturday when they host Denver.

It’s not that North Texas doesn’t have the talent to replace Jones and Williams. It’s more about whether the Mean Green have enough depth with only three scholarship guards on the roster.
