When the Sun Belt Conference first announced it was going back to requiring its men’s basketball teams to play a 150 average RPI nonconference schedule, it was met with skepticism. It’s a good idea, in theory. And no one really disputes that. But it’s just not a practical means of accomplishing what they want.


UALR women's schedule released; National Champs visit LR

   The UALR women released their 2011-2012 schedule on Tuesday with one very prominent opponent.
Defending National Champion Texas A&M, with former UA-Fayetteville Coach Gary Blair, will visit the Jack Stephens Center on Nov. 17.

With Michael Javes arriving on campus this week, we can finally take a look at who's who at UALR this season. At this point, everyone looks great and there are no holes anywhere. But it never seems to work out that way on any team at any level. What UALR does appear to have this year is a lot of pieces to the puzzle.

Michael Javes cleared by NCAA, enrolls at UALR; 2011 solidified

   UALR solidified the 2011-2012 roster when freshman Michael Javes arrived on campus and enrolled.
   Javes, who is from Venezuela, played high school basketball in Florida. He had to be given approval by the NCAA Clearinghouse and prove his status as an amateur athlete before he could enroll. That has now taken place.

UALR's players reported to Little Rock on Tuesday and will begin classes shortly. UALR also hopes to hear from the NCAA on the elegibility of incoming freshman Michael Javes.
UALR has been down this road before and it's always an impatient waiting game this time of year. But it is believed the NCAA will make a decision this week.

Former ULL Head Coach expected to join UALR staff

UALR is expected to announce this week that former Louisiana-Lafayette head coach Robert Lee will join the coaching staff.
Lee spent last year as an assistant coach at Louisiana-Monroe.

UALR walk-on heads to Kansas to play football

   Neal Barlow's status as a UALR basketball walk-on is over before it ever really got started.
   Barlow, who didn't survive spring conditioning at UALR, is now headed to Kansas to play football. Barlow, a football recruit, originally committed to Kansas out of high school before switching to Arkansas-Fayetteville. He injured his foot there and eventually left school.
