UALR Rewind: Rebounding, free throws key in Trojans' victory

BURN THE HORSE

UALR improves to 2-0 in Sun Belt Conference play. Here's a look back at the BTH Keys to Victory:

1. Big start: Well, it didn’t look like UALR accomplished this when they fell behind by 11 points. But a big run over the final 10 minutes of the first half gave the Trojans a halftime lead. Grade: B+

2. Board it: UALR had to dominate rebounding and the Trojans did. UALR held a 34-25 rebounding edge, including 11-5 in offensive rebounds. Grade: A.

3. Take care: Once again, UALR had more turnovers (12) than its opponent (11). But 12 turnovers are well within the respectable range. Grade: B+.

4. Free time: Denver is one of the nation’s best free throw shooting teams and the Pioneers made 22 of 28 free throws on the night. But UALR, despite not getting many calls in the second half, hung in there. And when Denver had to send UALR to the line late, the Trojans made them. UALR made 20 of 27 free throws. Grade: B+.

Stat of the game
UALR out Denver-ed Denver from the free throw line. The Trojans made 6 of 11 threes while Denver made just 5 of 21.

Always negative
UALR had just 7 assists. Actually, they probably had more. Assists remain the most difficult statistic to keep track of and the visiting team almost always fails to get credited all the time.

Keep it positive
Freshman Ben Dillard went 4 of 5 from the field (including 3 of 3 from three-point range) and 2 of 2 at the free throw line.

Up next
The Trojans travel to Louisville, Ky., to take on Kentucky on Tuesday evening.
