UALR passes test in rout of Philander Smith

BURN THE HORSE
A look back at the Burn The Horse Keys to Victory from Tuesday's 102-59 victory over Philander Smith:
Freshman Michael Javes
had 12 points.
  1. Take it serious: UALR took control from the start of the game and was never seriously challenged. There was a first-half lull that allowed Philander Smith to cut the halftime deficit to 21 points, but the Trojans came back in the second half and did what had to be done. Grade: A-
  2. Turnovers and rebounds: UALR dominated rebounding 45-24, but the Trojans only had 11 offensive rebounds. Then again, when you go 41 of 66 from the field there aren’t that many opportunities. Of the 25 missed shots, UALR had 11 offensive boards. That’s pretty solid. However, 14 turnovers is still too many. Grade: B
  3. Develop confidence: It certainly didn’t come from the three-point line. Out there, UALR was only 4 of 20 on Tuesday. But Coach Steve Shields was able to play everyone at least 12 minutes and everyone except Reggie Fondren scored. Even better, the next lowest scorer was Will Neighbour with seven points. Pretty much everyone has to feel good about their effort. That will breed confidence. Grade: A.
