SMU captains up before game at UALR on Sunday

No idea what's up with the timing of this, but SMU Coach Matt Doherty named a fourth team captain for the Mustangs on Saturday, one day before they take on UALR. For those scoring at home, that's four captains on a 15-member team.

Rodney Clinkscales was added to the captaincy on Saturday. He joins Robert Nyakundi, Jeremiah Samarrippas and Shawn Williams as the Mustangs' captains.

"Great leadership is always important and becomes even more impactful with this many new faces," says Doherty. "Rodney has earned this distinction with his preparation and performance this year. He really showed his leadership when he missed three games with an injury, but was still doing everything he could to help each day."

Clinkscales is averaging 4.3 points and shooting 41.7 percent from 3-point range (5-12) in four games. He suffered a right foot injury in the season-opener and missed the next three games. He is now fifth at SMU in career 3-point percentage (.401, 67-167) and 21st in 3-point field goals (67).

UALR hosts SMU at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Jack Stephens Center.
