Strong's Stetson Billings gives commitment to sign with UALR

BURN THE HORSE
The year of the guard continues for UALR with another strong commitment for UALR this week.

Stetson Billings, a 6-5 (sometimes listed 6-6) guard from Strong, Arkansas, visited this week and has given a verbal commitment to sign with UALR in November.

Billings was a teammate of Kentucky commitment Archie Goodwin last summer while playing for the Arkansas Wings in AAU basketball.

ESPN ranked him the fourth best recruit in the state. No. 1 was Goodwin, No. 2 was West Memphis' Jalen Jackson, who has yet to commit, and No. 3 was Dusty Hannahs, who committed to Texas Tech. ESPN gave him a grade in the 80s which equates to a 2 star.

We haven’t located Billings’ final stats from last season, but he was averaging about 23 points per game about halfway through. He scored 36 points in the quarterfinals of the state tournament last year. And he was mentioned among the state’s elite recruits from local recruitniks like Dudley Dawson and Richard Davenport.

He was named third-team All-Arkansas in the spring by the Little Rock newspaper. And he was on Arkansas’ All-State list.

Billings best attribute probably isn’t his ability to score. Billings is considered a lock-down defender (think former Trojan John Fowler).

Billings has apparently canceled a scheduled visit to Oral Roberts later this week. He’s listed as a potential Louisiana Tech recruit by most of the recruiting services. And he was also receiving attention from Missouri State. An earlier story about him said he was being recruited by Tulsa, Wichita State, Southeastern Louisiana and Cleveland State.

Billings is the fourth commitment of the fall for UALR. Austin Bowie's Mareik Isom, Houston Strake Jesuit's John Gillon and Bossier City Airline's Josh Hagins previously committed to sign.
