It seems pretty simple. Get into their bench, far into their bench.
UALR's strength this season has been the number of players its able to utilize throughout the course of the game. It's enabled the Trojans to survive a fair amount of foul trouble and fatigue, especially during the Sun Belt Tournament run.
In the three games of the Big South Tournament played by UNC-Asheville, the Bulldogs played guard Matt Dickey 39, 38 and 38 minutes, guard J.P. Primm 38, 33 and 39 minutes, John Williams 34, 30 and 37 minutes, Chris Stephenson 27, 24 and 29 minutes and Jeron Lane 30, 29 and 22 minutes.
For those three games, Primm was a +46, Lane a +36, Dickey a +35, Stephenson a +29 and Williams a +28. Those are huge numbers, but they drop off the earth after Quinard Johnson's +21. Trent Meyer was a -5 and Eric Stubbs a -3 in the tournament.
That's the extent of players who saw action in that tournament, but the Bulldogs will be boosted by the expected return of 6-10 post player D.J. Cunningham.
Solomon Bozeman is the only UALR player approaching those minutes of late. On the front line, UALR needs to keep running post players at the Bulldogs: Marlon Louzeiro, Gus Leeper, Montrell Thornton, Eric Kibi, Derrick Bails and even Courtney Jackson. UALR's guard depth also needs to be a factor with reserves like Chuck Guy, Matt Mouzy and Tramar Sutherland available to pick up more minutes.
In the NCAA Tournament, you wouldn't expect a lot of fouls to be called. UALR needs to take advantage of that by playing physical on defense, especially with the Bulldogs' guards. And if they are calling fouls, UALR needs to use its depth to hold the fort until fouls even up, as they typically do.
If Dickey and Primm are able to operate for 38 or 39 minutes tonight, it could be a long night for the Trojans.
