LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- The UALR women overcame another sluggish performance by turning it on late to beat Louisiana-Lafayette 51-40 on Saturday at the Jack Stephens Center.    As has been the case in most recent games, lock-down defense was the difference as the Trojans won their eighth-consecutive game, 19th-consecutive home game, 14th-consecutive January game and 22nd consecutive Sun Belt Conference game.
It was also the 597th victory of Coach Joe Foley’s career.
Chastity Reed led UALR with 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Shanika Butler had 14 points and 9 rebounds. The rest of the UALR roster accounted for 22 points and 15 rebounds combined.
But UALR got the defensive stops at the crucial point in the game and used an 11-0 run to defeat the Lady Cajuns, who led 36-34 with 9:20 left after a three-pointer by Michelle Brunker.
UALR then started its rally. Butler converted a three-point play, Reed hit a jumper and Hannah Fohne scored on a layup for a 41-36 UALR lead. Two more layups by Butler capped the 11-0 run and gave UALR a 45-36 lead with 5:07
Louisiana-Lafayette could only get as close as seven points the remainder of the game.
UALR shot 46 percent from the field, but had 16 turnovers. Louisiana-Lafayette shot 29 percent.
