UALR Athletic Director Chris Peterson appeared for a few minutes this morning on 103.7 The Buzz and talked a little about Coach Steve Shields suspension for tonight's game against Louisiana-Monroe.
"Steve Shields graduates 94 percent of his kids. He's won four division championships in seven years and Steve's just going to take the night off, going to relax tonight," Peterson said when asked about the suspension. He later added: "I'm a thousand percent in support of Steve Shields."
Peterson also joked about Assistant Coach Joe Kleine making his head coaching debut tonight. While a longtime NBA player and a UALR assistant for several years, Kleine's only head coaching experience has come in grade-school basketball.
"We'll see if Kleine's big hat, no cattle," Peterson joked.
Peterson said he's not concerned about the situation.
"He'll do a great job and Steve will be back rolling Saturday and he'll be just fine," Peterson said.
