BURN THE HORSE
Thoughts on the game and statistics while wondering what happens to UALR when it gets on a bus:
- UALR won despite not getting big offensive numbers from senior guard Solomon Bozeman. He finished with 11 points but had five turnovers. He also missed a late three-pointer that could have put the game away. Bozeman did play 30 minutes and UALR is now 4-1 when he reaches that mark.
- With UALR struggling offensively early on, the offensive play of senior guard Matt Mouzy kept UALR in the game. Mouzy made two three-pointers and beat a shot clock with a layup as he scored all eight of his points in the first half.
- After struggling the past four games, both juniors Courtney Jackson and Eric Kibi had big games on Sunday. Jackson had 14 points and 6 rebounds and Kibi had 10 points and 7 rebounds.
- During UALR's rally in the first half, both Bozeman and Mouzy missed three-pointers that were about as wide open as you can possibly get. Bozeman also missed a wide-open three late in the second half.
- Senior Derrick Bails was called for an intentional foul as a Tulsa three-point attempt was going in. It cut the lead to 3 points and gave Tulsa two shots and the ball. Tulsa made 1 of 2 to cut the lead to 3 and UALR got the ball back when officials made up the call by whistling a charge against Tulsa. I asked Bails after the game what he did and he said the official said he threw Tulsa's Steven Idlet down while fighting for the rebound. Honestly, it didn't look like anything different than any other play the entire game.
- UALR forced 19 turnovers while having only 10 turnovers of their own. Junior D'Andre Williams had 8 points, 6 assists, 4 steals and no turnovers.
- A big play in the game came in the second half when Tulsa's D.J. Magley (you might remember him from his Western Kentucky days) and UALR's Courtney Jackson were called for a double foul. It was Magley's fourth foul.
- The UALR bench came through big time, outscoring the Trojans starters 40-29.
