BTH Top 10 UALR games of the decade

All were great games. Some didn't work out like UALR hoped. Some were more important than others. And there were some that probably should have made this list but didn't. There were 10 other games on the original list, but you have to draw a line somewhere.

Florida International 118, UALR 114 (5OT)
UALR blew a 14-point second half lead and had to rally just to get the game in overtime. The Trojans appeared to have the game won in the first overtime before Ivan Almante’s prayer fall-away three-pointer banked in at the buzzer. The game ended up going five overtimes before the Trojans lost. Brandon Freeman scored 37 points to lead UALR.

UALR 79, Arkansas State 77
Alex Garcia-Mendoza’s half court three-pointer beat the buzzer and set off a wild celebration at the Jack Stephens Center as UALR pulled off a major upset by beating rival Arkansas State.

UALR 65, Arkansas State 63
Mark Green’s three-pointer with 3.1 seconds left gave the Trojans a two-point victory over Arkansas State at Alltel Arena. The game had 13 lead changes and 11 ties before a Sun Belt Conference record crowd of 12,985.

UALR 64, Louisiana-Lafayette 63
Darius Eason’s black shoes made a difference. Zack Wright saw them and made a pass to Eason, who scored on a layup at the buzzer as UALR beat Louisiana-Lafayette in the Trojans’ final home game before leaving Alltel Arena.

UALR 83, ASU 78 (OT)
Brandon Freeman’s three-pointer with 2.9 seconds left in regulation sent the game to overtime at the Sun Belt Tournament in Bowling Green, Ky. It capped a big rally by the Trojans in the final minutes as Arkansas State missed free throw after free throw. The Trojans then won the game in overtime to advance.

New Orleans 73, UALR 72
New Orleans snapped UALR’s six-game winning streak on Kentrell Martin’s layup with 0.9 seconds left. But it was the postgame fireworks that made this game memorable. At the postgame handshake, New Orleans Coach Monty Towe slapped the hand of UALR Coach Porter Moser and a brawl nearly broke out.

UALR 53, Northwestern 43
Coming off the disastrous 1999-2000 season, the first game under Coach Porter Moser and the first season of the new decade was memorable with an upset at Northwestern.

UALR 55, WKU 53
UALR went from pretender to contender with an upset of Western Kentucky at E.A. Diddle Arena. Zack Wright passed to Darius Eason for a dunk and the Trojans survived a long three-point attempt by Courtney Lee at the buzzer to pull out the victory. It moved UALR into first place, where they would finish ahead of the Hilltoppers.

UALR used a trapping press to turn what looked like a loss into a victory at the Sun Belt Tournament in Hot Springs. John Fowler’s back-to-back three-pointers tied the game and then gave UALR the victory over Denver.

Minnesota 86, UALR 84 (OT)
Trailing by two points late in overtime, ,UALR got a break when Minnesota missed a free throw. But the officials didn’t give the Trojans a break. The ball hit off a Minnesota player (TV replays showed it clearly) but officials gave the ball to Minnesota. It helped the Golden Gophers hold on to beat UALR.
