Guy was still scoreless when he entered the game with 14:05 left and the Trojans holding a 32-27 lead.
After missing one jump shot, Guy started feeling it. He hit a three-pointer, a jumper in the lane and then back-to-back three-pointers in the stretch as UALR expanded its lead to 47-39. The second three-pointer checked up on the back of the rim before dropping in.
UALR improves to 3-1 on the season and 3-1 at home under Coach Steve Shields against teams from the Missouri Valley Conference. UALR has previously beaten Southern Illinois and Creighton and lost last season to Missouri State. Illinois State drops to 2-1 on the season.
Senior guard Solomon Bozeman led UALR with 14 points.
But it was the inside out play of junior forward Marlon Louzeiro that made a difference throughout. Louzeiro finished with career highs of 11 points and 4 rebounds.
UALR took an early 7-0 lead and never trailed in the game. Although Illinois State cut a 19-6 lead to 25-23 at intermission.
UALR returns to action on Wednesday against Oral Roberts (2-1) at Tulsa, Oklahoma.
